End of the Semester Events!

Hey everyone!

Trisk has three awesome events coming up at the end of the semester, and we want YOU to come to them!!

Saturday, April 30th: Do It in the Dark! Ready for Trisk's annual Spring Dance? Ready for it to be co-sponsored with SEA?! Come dance in the dark and be green with some free rainbow glowsticks, bracelets, necklaces, and more!! 1100-200 in the SCC Multi-Purpose Room (second floor, the big room on your left after you get up the stairs!).

Tuesday, May 3rd: True Colors Out Youth Theater! Come see a great theater troupe composed of Boston-area queer youth put on their own theater pieces. This season, they've added music to their performances! This is a great look at some creative arts done by our inner-city peers, and it's not to be missed! 7:00-8:00 for the performance, 8:00-9:00 for the talk-back, in Ridgewood A Commons!

Thursday, May 5th: Study Day Picnic! Tired of studying? Or do you have so much to do that you can't take the time to cook? Come snag a ton of free food and listen to some great music at Trisk's Study Day Picnic!! 1200-200 on the Great Lawn! (Rainy day location is the SCC atrium.)

Hang in there, everyone; the year is winding down and finals are fast approaching, but have no fear, because QRC is here! If you ever need to talk out your stress, the QRC is here to listen. We're open 100-500 MThF and 100-800 TW.

New Semester, New Stuff!!

Hey there, Brandeis, and welcome to the space between winter break and February break! The QRC is up and running on the same schedule as last semester--MThF 100-500, TW 100-800--but more excitingly, we've beefed up our DVD and book library! A LOT!

But I won't tell you what we got, because I want you to come up to SCC 328 and see for yourself!

Stay warm, Brandeis, and make really queer Snow Angels on the Great Lawn!

QRC Open During Finals!

Dear Slightly-to-Extremely Stressed Members of the Brandeis Community,

The QRC is proud to announce that we are OPEN during finals! Clear through until the end of next week, we'll be holding regular office hours to serve you during this stressful time of year. Come chat about how your finals are going, decompress after a particularly brutal paper, or talk with someone how you feel about going home over break.

Remember, we've also got an awesome resource library! Working on a paper about queer issues? Need your own copy of that movie you watched in class? Maybe you just want to take a break and watch some Noah's Arc? Check our public library here to see if we've got what you're looking for, and we'll lend it to you until the end of break.

Speaking of the library, we also just got a ton of new movies and books in, so check the public listing to see what's new!

And on one last note, to anyone looking for safer sex products: SSIS will be holding Holiday Hours throughout finals, which means that they may not be open during their regular hours. You can either email them if you need something specific and they'll help you out (they're great!), or you can stop by the QRC office. We have a small supply of individually wrapped condoms, gloves, dental dams, and lube (as well as neat hand towels from Fenway Health!). Again, if you're looking for anything else, please email SSIS and they'll help you!

Practice self-care (like coming to talk to us!) throughout finals, and good luck on them!
Remember to sleep and eat healthy!
Much love and macaroni,
the Queer Resource Center

(Please note: while the QRC is open for our regular hours, Mon, Thurs, Fri 100-500 and Tue, Wed 100-800, the same counselors are not necessarily holding the same hours. If you want to speak to someone specific, please email that person or qrc@brandeis.edu for their hours or to schedule an outside meeting.)

Coming Out Week, Part 2!

Hello, Triskuits, and happy National Coming Out Day!

Keep an eye out for some more events as our (pretty much two-week-long) Coming Out Week continues! Tomorrow the 12th will be TransBrandeis' first monthly meeting of the year. We'll be meeting from 230 until 330 in the conference room of the Intercultural Center (located in East). Join us for a general meet and greet, along with discussions about what you'd like to see for the year!

Make sure to head back to the ICC on Thursday for another great discussion with SASS from 300 to 400, and then that night, come up to the Trisk Lounge for our general Trisk meeting from 800 until 900. This week's meeting is about sharing coming out stories. Come to listen, be supportive, and if you feel comfortable, share a story of your own.

Also, Team, it's not an event brought to you by Trisk, but you may also want to check out the WGS Department's speaker Lissa V. Young, a 16-year veteran of the US army; she'll be speaking about Don't Ask, Don't Tell today at 400 in the International Lounge in Usdan. Click here for the fancy flier!

Once again, HAPPY COMING OUT DAY!
Stay strong, Team!
Much love,
Triskelion

Candlelight Vigil TONIGHT

To our fellow queer and allied Brandeisians,

Today, Monday October 4th, is Brandeis' kick-off to Coming Out Week 2010. We welcome you to a week (and more) full of events to celebrate our identities and ourselves. We decided to start Coming Out Week today because it is National Suicide Prevention Day.

Our first event will be a candlelight vigil in memory of all those who have taken their lives for reasons related to their non-normative identity. There will also be special reference given to those in the U.S. who have taken their lives this school year. This vigil will be held at 5:30pm, at the Peace Circle outside of Usdan. We hope that you'll come to show your support and remembrance.

Our second event will be after the vigil; from 6:00 until 9:00, we'll be making this year's Coming Out Quilt squares in the ICC Swig Lounge. Come design a square (or two, or three!) and watch the movie "Kissing Jessica Stein" with us if you want to hang out afterward. Drop by anytime between 6:00 and 9:00!

We hope that you'll also join us tomorrow for Year Abroad, Queer Abroad. Panelists coming from a variety of host countries and a mix of identities will be talking about their experiences as queer people abroad. The panel goes from 7:00pm to 8:00pm in the ASAC Atrium (in the building next to the Heller School). Come with questions for the Q&A!

Keep checking back for more Coming Out Week events, and remember, you are loved!

Happy Coming Out Week!
Much love,
Triskelion
