To our fellow queer and allied Brandeisians,
Today, Monday October 4th, is Brandeis' kick-off to Coming Out Week 2010. We welcome you to a week (and more) full of events to celebrate our identities and ourselves. We decided to start Coming Out Week today because it is National Suicide Prevention Day.
Our first event will be a candlelight vigil in memory of all those who have taken their lives for reasons related to their non-normative identity. There will also be special reference given to those in the U.S. who have taken their lives this school year. This vigil will be held at 5:30pm, at the Peace Circle outside of Usdan. We hope that you'll come to show your support and remembrance.
Our second event will be after the vigil; from 6:00 until 9:00, we'll be making this year's Coming Out Quilt squares in the ICC Swig Lounge. Come design a square (or two, or three!) and watch the movie "Kissing Jessica Stein" with us if you want to hang out afterward. Drop by anytime between 6:00 and 9:00!
We hope that you'll also join us tomorrow for Year Abroad, Queer Abroad. Panelists coming from a variety of host countries and a mix of identities will be talking about their experiences as queer people abroad. The panel goes from 7:00pm to 8:00pm in the ASAC Atrium (in the building next to the Heller School). Come with questions for the Q&A!
Keep checking back for more Coming Out Week events, and remember, you are loved!
Happy Coming Out Week!
Much love,
Triskelion
